Math Games: Professor Pi’s Math Mayhem Beta 2.0

Please check out beta 2.0!

I have uploaded version Beta 2.0 of Math Mayhem to our math games section.  Please let me know what you like about it/don’t like about it if you try it out.  Also, please report any bugs if you find them.

I have introduced some power ups in this version, and a “How to Play” section (yea – instructions are a good thing).  Also, I added two more levels for a total of three.  I don’t want to add too many levels in case there are bugs to hunt down.  If all goes well with this release, I will work on the first full-scale roll-out (i.e., I’ll add a bunch of levels).

Anyway, please give it a try, and I hope you like it!

Math Games: Professor Pi’s Math Mayhem

Professor Pi's Math Mayhem

I have reached the point where the current game project is ready for beta release.  What this means is that I am asking users to download it and test it on their systems.  I have tested it already on a number of computers, and I have not noticed any bugs, but this does not mean that this math game is bug-free.  So if you do download it, please let me know of any strangeness by adding a post on this page, along with information on your operating system.

Also, I would like to get a feel on what you thing of the game play; is it too easy or too hard?  Is it interesting to play or boring?  I will be adding more interesting features to it in the near future, but for now I really need to test it in this form.  Although designed for use by school children, adults may find this fun to play too.

This beta release is very simple – only one board of play just to test it out before I make it more complex and add new boards.  The object of the game is very simple – eliminate 25 bricks equal to 10.  Here is a screenshot:

I plan on adding power-ups eventually, along with additional boards; you will see this in the next beta release.  For now, I’ll do some design improvements while I await feedback from this release.

If you want to know when the next beta version is released, please check back periodically, or, if you have a Facebook account, you can join our Facebook Page (Click here or look to the right panel for the link).

UPDATE: Version Beta 2.0 has been released. Please read the post here.

Math Games Software Update

August 9th, 2010 by admin | 4 Comments | Filed in Games, Math Software

Just a quick note to let you know what is going on with the math games software.  I have a better idea of what I want the first game to be like, and I have been playing some games on Facebook so that I can get some ideas on how to enhance it.  The downside to my game playing is that I truly believe that I have become addicted to some of the games there.  Needless to say, I have not done much in game programming for the last week or so!

Anyways, I’ll be plugging away at some math game programming this week, assuming that I can get this monkey off my back.  Wish me luck – I’ll need it!

Math Software Game

Introducing Professor Pi

professor pi's math game

Professor Pi – professor of math games

It has been a while since I have done game programming.  The last true game I wrote was back in 1999.  So, I think it is about time I started again!

I do have an interesting background in game programming.  My first endeavor was back in the early 1980′s, on the VAX/VMS system at the Rochester Institute of Technology.  Later, in the mid 80′s, I wrote several games using BASIC, including “Glory of the Empire”, which was a somewhat popular Star Trek ‘Starfllet vs. Klingons’ game.  Later, I began game programming in C++ and Assembly.

All of the games I produced in the past were purely for pleasure.  This is my first attempt at programming educational games.  The trick is to make it engaging enough for people to want to play, and yet provide a means for the player to become better at mathematics.  A tall order!  Well, I have an idea on paper that might foot the bill.

Writing this math game might take as short as a month, or it may take several months (it is hard to find the time sometimes with two toddlers and an infant).  Regardless, I hope to have a beta version out in a few weeks.  I hope that I can get some beta testers to try it out and let me know if it works well on their systems, and also to give me their feelings on the game (i.e., is it a good game, or is it a steaming pile of crap!).   Well, anyway, please stay tuned!
