Happy New Years Eve!  Can you solve our year-end puzzle?

Here it is:

OK, so to solve this, set

A = 3 glasses

B = hat

C = Party Person

So,

A + B = 15

B + C = 19

A + C = 10

Subtract A + B from B + C

B + C – (A + B) = C – A = 19 – 15 = 4

Now add C – A and A + C

C – A + A + C = 4 + 10 = 14

C + C = 14

2C = 14

C = 7

So now

B + C = 19

B + 7 = 19

B = 12

Now

A + B = 15

A + 12 = 15

A = 3

So three glasses = 3, so one glass = 1

So solving and remembering the order of operations:

B + C x (A/3) = 12 + (7 x 1) = 12 + 7 = 19

There it is!  Now, for something a little more challenging:

We at MathTricks.Org are wishing you a GREAT 2017!

Find Christmas Penguin

Can you find Christmas Penguin given the clues below?  Take a look:

Actually, if you do some substitutions, it is really not too difficult to figure out.

Let Penguin = A

Let Bear = B

Let Panda = C

Now we have:

A + B = 45

C + C = 38

C + B = 50

We can see that

C + C = 2C = 38, so C = 19

So

19 + B = 50

B = 50 – 19 = 31

Then

A + 31 = 45

A = 45 – 31 = 14

So the Christmas Penguin = 14!!

Happy Holidays!!
